Some buildings are designed to shelter. Others are designed to inspire.
The Meditation Centre at the Yoga Centre, Nature Cure Campus of SDME Society, Bengaluru, belongs firmly to the latter. Conceived as a place for wellness, reflection, and relaxation, the project is distinguished by a roof form that transforms architecture into sculpture.
At first glance, the building appears as though a giant turtle has gently settled onto the landscape. Organic, fluid, and unmistakably unique, the roof becomes the defining architectural feature of the campus, creating an identity that is both memorable and deeply connected to nature.
Designed as a true parametric structure, the roof is composed of multiple curves, changing slopes, and continuously flowing surfaces. Rather than relying on conventional geometries, the design embraces complexity to create a seamless architectural form that appears effortless despite the sophisticated engineering behind it.
The vision required a material and construction approach capable of preserving the purity of the design. The objective was clear: achieve a monolithic and homogeneous appearance without the visual interruption of repetitive seam lines that are often associated with complex roofing systems.
Every curve was carefully developed to maintain continuity across the structure, ensuring that the roof reads as a single sculptural element rather than a collection of assembled components. The result is an architectural surface that feels fluid, natural, and unified from every perspective.
Beyond its visual impact, the project represents the collaboration of architects, engineers, designers, and fabrication specialists working together to transform an ambitious concept into reality. It demonstrates how advanced computational design, structural engineering, and precision execution can expand the possibilities of contemporary architecture.
The project was led by Principal Architect Ar. Maahesh P. Doiphode of Masterminds Architects, with structural design by Ayush Kasliwal of AKFD Studio, Jaipur. The parametric design was developed by Mr. Sadique Hussain of Axes In Excess, supported by Structural Designer Er. Pranav Kulkarni, Project Management by Bharani Consultants, and Installation and Execution by Mr. Sunil Baliga of Anvi Envelop Design and Engineering.
More than a roof, this project is a celebration of what becomes possible when design ambition, engineering precision, and architectural innovation come together. A landmark where form, technology, and nature exist in perfect harmony.
